Cellphone World

Ah, my little guy is truly adapting to this culture of ours. His latest learning development - the phone. Since Sunday, he has been picking up random objects, holding them on his ear with his head tilted a little, and saying "Bye Bye". Acceptable phone substitutes: a toy sheep, the gate to his barnyard house, a plastic door, a piece of paper, a pretzel, and let's not forget the chicken nugget. All of those can be used as potential communication devices. While he babbles away, he always remembers to say "Bye Bye" at the end of the conversation. Haha. I can't help but laugh. I guess I talk on the phone way too much.

Happy Thursday

I have been much enjoying my new spacious refrigerator since Tuesday! As promised, here it is:

I love all the space. I couldn't even fit a frozen pizza in my old refrigerator.

Our new toilet should be installed tonight. Yay!

Nothing much else to say, I'm exhausted - I think I'll take a nap while Hayden snoozes today.

Oh, and in Hayden news...he's fascinated with all things SHOES! He particularly loves walking around in Daddy's shoes, but he's also been caught in mine too..

Camping Indoors

So, our family has been talking about taking a day camping trip before we have the next baby for a few weeks now. With the beautiful weather, and just wanting to get out of the house, it sounds like a great idea. I had no idea, however, that I would get a taste of camping without even leaving the house!

Yesterday, we came up to a slightly cool refrigerator and a completely thawed freezer. AGH! Yes, our refrigerator is broken. So now half of our fridge is in a cooler, haha. I tried not to freak out. But the time had come for a new fridge. We bought this one "AS IS" almost 8 years ago, and it hasn't impressed me much since then.

So today we all met up at Lowe's and bought a new fridge!!! Woooooot. It gets delivered tomorrow. I'm so excited, I'll definitely have pics up of the new appliance when it gets here. And while we were there, I wandered over into the washer/dryer area and picked out those too. Our dryer has slowly been going out for over a year now. At present it takes at least an hour to dry clothes and our washer gets off balance if you put more than 5 towels in it. And just to make sure we take care of all the problems, we also bought a new toilet to replace the completely broken one upstairs. So yes, my house is actually getting some love! I can't believe it.

I'm sure it will be years before we get the carpet this house desperately needs, but at least we will have cold food, clean clothes, and a place to pee!

In other noteworthy events, Hayden (who has a fascination with all things ceiling fans) was majorly impressed with Lowe's ceiling fan section. He was so excited he just ran up and down the aisles grunting. HA!

Shower Buddy

So, Momma's having a hard day. Nothing bad, just one of those blah days. Me thinks...Hmmm...a nice long hot shower, maybe a candle, some nice smelling body wash...Yeah! So I throw on a show for Hayden, put up the baby gate, close the bedroom doors, and Voila! All set to enjoy my shower.

I light two candles and hop on in. Yes! This is perfect. Then...I hear, thump thump, bang bang, giggle! Uh, what?! How'd you get in here? The door was closed. I peek my shampoo covered head out the curtain and...oh shit, the candles! I mean, granted, my mommyhood had kicked in when I lit them and I put them up on the counter away from the edge, but my kid is resourceful and there is no way I'm letting him prowl around in the bathroom with lit candles. So I quickly hop out, blow out the candles, and hop back in. Brrr.

Okay, I can handle this. Hayden can play in the bathroom and I'll continue my shower. Except...peekaboo!!! Hayden's favorite game of pulling the shower curtain back to let all the cold air in to freeze my butt. Bonus points if he gets sprayed by the water flying out of the shower. Then comes the crashing of all the shampoo bottles on the side of the tub. And for extra points...the trash can! Yes, people, I had my bathroom trash can thrown in the shower with me.

Now, I know that I never received a manual with this child, but no one ever mentioned that I'd have a permanent shower buddy. Just another one of those surprises I'm learning to laugh about.

Forgotten Fun and Joggy Update

So, I took out the joggy stroller for a spin. Despite passing 3 or 4 folks on the trail, I got no strange looks for the odd sight of my "other" baby. This other baby is red and made of leather, otherwise known as my purse, hehe. Yes, my purse hung out on one seat and Hayden chilled in the other. So my rating of this stroller is somewhere between a B and a C if I were to buy it new, but gets a B+ for a $40 stroller.

No, I didn't get my desired swivel wheel. I understand why this is important on sidewalks. Sheesh, I got a huge upper arm workout trying to turn this sucker. But, I must say, once on the trails, it got the job done and I had no issues turning it. So this is a trail stroller only! And that's what I bought it for.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to mention this happening at the Kite Festival. So we're looking around for a nice place to for Big Pregnant Momma to plop down and find a shady spot behind a vendor. Another family with an older boy gathered near us. I'm getting ready to relax when what do I see in the corner of my eye? Their little boy had just unzipped, whipped out the goods and started peeing right there in front of God and everyone! I mean geez...I'm sitting on the grass here....pee rolls down hill...and the Dad is just sitting there doing NOTHING. WTH? Ok, note to self, when at an outdoor festival, keep little man's pee pee in the pants.

Zilker Cracker Festival

The Zavala's enjoyed another fun-filled family day this weekend at the Zilker Kite Festival. Of course, for Hayden I have renamed it the Cracker Festival, because by the end of the day all of us and the wagon were covered in some form of cracker.

We splurged and bought the Odyssey Radio Flyer Wagon for the event, and I must say it was worth it!!! Hayden loved his wagon and it was nice not to have to lug around all our junk. The wagon held all of mommy and daddy's much needed supplies for the day.

Hayden, as usual, gravitated straight towards the guys playing soccer. I swear that boy loves anything sports. Too bad his momma doesn't have that same passion. Oh well, I guess I will now. His main concern with the kites was how to grab one and destroy it. The rest of the day was spent looking for bigger and better sticks. But all in all, I think we all had fun on Sunday.

Saturday I went to the Mothers of Multiples Sale downtown and got lots of goodies. I ended up with 2 double strollers - a jogging and regular double - for less than the price of just one stroller. No, they aren't the strollers I might pick out new. But hey, $40 for a jogging stroller? How can I say no to that. I also got an exersaucer to replace the great one M let me borrow. I figured, since I'm having a second kid, I should just bite the big one and get one of our own.

So this afternoon I'm thinking about testing out my new jogging stroller on the nature trails here in our neighborhood. Hopefully, no one looks at me too weird for pushing a double stroller with only one kid.
